In St. Johnsbury, on the grounds of the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, is this pair of millstones in the backyard.

The museum is on Main Street, about a block off U.S. 2. Entering U.S. 2 from the east, turn south onto Railroad Street (still Route 2) to Eastern Ave., turn right and travel on Eastern Ave. to the end, then turn right onto Main Street and drive a short distance to the museum on the right.

Once you arrive at the museum and pay admission, pass through to the other side of the building and walk outside to the back and follow the path to the stones.

The stones are circular in shape and are differently cut. One has a circular hole with long, straight grooves radiating out and light etched grooves between them. The other has a square hole, with alternating long and slightly shorter grooves radiating out. One of the wheels is not quite whole.

Admission is required to see them ($9 per adult, $7 per child over 5).

Open daily, 9am - 5 pm.
