"Situé sur la commune de Dompierre-du-chemin à 1& km au sud de Fougères et 20 km au nord de Vitré, le Saut-Roland est le premier site espace naturel sensible des Marches de Bretagne. Falaises abruptes culminant à 173 m et versants boisés jusqu'en fond de vallée composent le paysage traversé d'est en ouest par le ruisseau de Saint-Blaise. Tous ces éléments réunis ne sont pas sans stimuler l'imaginaire de l'esprit vagabond, qu'il soit simple promeneur ou bien grimpeur.
I y a 150 ans, le site du Saut-Roland était exploité pour là qualité de ses roches composées de quartzine et utilisées dans la construction et l'entretien des routes. Puis une légende venue du fond des temps ressurgit dans la culture populaire Roland, neveu de Charlemagne et préfet des Matches de Bretagne, après avoir guerroyé contre les Sarrasins revint en Bretagne pour défendre l'Empire contre les irréductibles bretons. Il voulut traverser le site en sautant avec son cheval d'un rocher à l'autre. Le premier saut fut dédié à Dieu, le deuxième à la Vierge et le troisième à sa Dame. Hélas, ce dernier lui fut fatal et il s'écrasa au fond du ravin.
A cet endroit coulé goutte à goutte une source recouverte d'un gros rochet: appelée "pierre dégoutantte", qui symbolise la Femme inconsolable et l'on dit "quand cette pierre tombera, le jugement viendra".
En 1993, la majeure partie du boisement devait être abattue et ce projet a mis en émoi tous les amoureux du site.
Alerté le Conseil général d'Ille-et-Vilaine a décidé d'intervenir au titre de sa politique de protection des espaces naturels. Il a ainsi acquis près de 40 hectares désormais ouverts au public.
Des sentiers de promenade ont été aménagés et deux sites de stationnement permettent un accès confortable au site."

Walking trails have been laid out and two parking areas provide comfortable access to the site. "
