Die Kaisereiche wurde am 19. Juni 1879 vom damaligen Prinzen Wilhelm von Preußen, dem späteren Kaiser Wilhelm II. "allerhöchst eigenhändig" gepflanzt. Im Kottenforst, einem Wald südlich von Bonn, ging der Prinz häufig auf die Jagd und hat zum Andenken daran diesen Baum gepflanzt. Die Eiche steht gegenüber der von seinem Sohn gepflanzten
Prinz-Oskar-Eiche in der Nähe vom
Jägerhäuschen an einer Weggabelung mitten im Kottenforst und ist heute ein Naturdenkmal.
Die Inschrift des Gedenksteins am Fuße des Baums lautet:
Am 19. Juli 1879 wurde diese Eiche von Seiner Königlichen Hoheit dem Prinzen Wilhelm von Preussen zum Andenken an die im hiesigen Reviere genossenen Waidmannsfreuden allerhöchst eigenhändig gepflanzt.
