This anchor is part of a memorial to local men lost at sea from the coastal town of Arbroath.

It sits on top of a red sandstone base which contains three plaques. One for lifeboatmen who lost their lives in 1911, when Bowman Peter Swankie fell beneath the carriage on the slipway, and 1953, when the RNLB Robert Lindsay capsized at the harbour wall with the loss of six of the crew. And two for fishermen, the first in 1877 for eight crew members, when the Betsy and Ellen capsized in a storm off the Northumberland coast, and the second for the four crew members of the MFV Westhaven which capsized north-east of Aberdeen in 1997.

The memorial is situated on the quayside of the Wet Dock of the harbour.
