EN: The Bachhüsli is a former wash house in the center of Ziefen. The small building stands next to a fountain between the main street and the creek near the junction to the church.

Ziefen is one of the few villages that still has a few of these wash houses, called "Buchhaus". In 1760, there were seven of them, each standing next to a fountain. The houses belonged to a cooperative of local residents, the membership was linked to the property of the dwelling-house. Non-members paid twice the price of the members, in the middle of the 19th century 2 Batzen per day. The last known wash day with a tub and an open fire to heat the water took place in 1924. Later, washing machines were installed for a few years.

The building called Bachhüsli is now used as a bakery for a group of women who are members of the Association for local cultural heritage. Here traditional bread is baked once a month, and other culinary events take place at irregular intervals.

DE: Das Bachhüsli ist ein ehemaliges Waschhaus im Zentrum von Ziefen. Das kleine Gebäude steht mit einem Brunnen zwischen der Hauptstrasse und dem Bach in der Nähe der Abzweigung zur Kirche.

Ziefen ist eines der wenigen Dörfer, die noch über ein paar dieser, Buchhaus genannte, Waschhäuser verfügt. 1760 gab es noch sieben davon, die alle neben einem Brunnen standen. Die Häuser gehörten jeweils einer Genossenschaft von Anwohnern, die Mitgliedschaft war an das Grundeigentum des wohnhauses gekoppelt. Nicht-Mitglieder zahlten den doppelten Preis der Genossenschafter, der in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts 2 Batzen pro Tag betrug. Der letzte bekannte Waschtag mit einem Waschzuber und offenem Feuer zum Heizen des Wassers fand 1924 statt. Später wurden noch für einige Jahre Waschmaschinen eingebaut.

Das Bachhüsli genannte Gebäude dient heute als Backstube für eine Gruppe von Frauen, die dem Verein für Heimatpflege angeschlossen ist. Hier wird einmal im Monat Brot gebacken, in unregelmässigen Abständen finden auch andere kulinarische Veranstaltungen statt.
