From Find-a-grave, this article about Rev. Smith -

"Religious Figure. He was one the most powerful and influential preachers in American history. In the mid-1930s he headed Huey Long's Share Our Wealth Clubs. He was completely devoted to Long. In his Pulitzer Prize winning book "Huey Long", T Harry Williams describes Smith sleeping on the floor beside the bed of his idol, the Kingfish. After Long's assassination by Carl Austin Weiss in 1935, he continued with the Share Our Wealth Clubs until he was eased out of power by the Long organization. In 1960s he ended up in Eureka Springs, Arkansas where he staged the "Great Passion Play" that portraits the life of Jesus Christ. It was, and is, one of the most successful plays in American history."
