This date is fixed on the iron beam of a short bridge that carries the B952 road over the Alyth Burn in the centre of the small Perthshire town. The full text reads as follows:

LEE CROLL & CO 1883 DUNDEE

Lee, Croll & Company were established in 1876 at the Lawside Foundary in the city of Dundee, 15 miles south from Alyth. The company was better known for manufacturing equipment in the weaving and jute industry.

The bridge is situated in Market Square and is one of the few road bridges over the burn that runs through the town. There are more footbridges, most of which were destroyed in the devastating flood of the burn in July 2015 and have since been rebuilt. The road bridge survived the flood, it is a simple beam construction with a central buttress.

The bridge is easily found by following the B952 next to the town's main car park.
