Beschreibung

Description

The Liechtenstein Castle is very different from other castles and fortresses in Austria. It is Austria's only ancestral castle of a governing princely house.

Built in 1130 by Hugo of Liechtenstein, the castle was owned by Liechtenstein up to 1295 and due to a marriage agreement came outside the family. It was not until 1807 that Prince Johann Josef I of Liechtenstein bought the castle, which since then has been owned by the Princes of Liechtenstein and has been a museum since 1812.

The castle is the ancestral castle of the Princes of Liechtenstein and has a unique architecture in itself, among others the Romanesque and the Historism. The castle is unique in Austria's landscape of castles. At the same time, the castle is testimony to the representation will of the Liechtenstein princes of the 19th century. It has been restored to its original state - and you will experience some unexpected surprises in the castle tours.
