This garden is located at Loula and Water. The site was originally the location of an old church that had fallen into disrepair. The city razed the church turning the area into a vacant lot. The Garden plots are currently full and have a waiting list. Several fun whirlygigs dot the property. The Sculpture - "Welcome Home" - a sculpture of three bugs is located on the north side of the plot. Several butterfly houses also dot the property.
The Story of the Olathe Community Gardens

The Olathe Community Gardens began in 2003 when some residents got together with city staff to discuss the idea of using the vacant property located at Loulu and Water in downtown Olathe as a community garden. The City agreed. They plowed the lot and added water lines and spigots. An Eagle Scout project marked and tilled the plots. Cards were sent to residents informing them that the space was available. By spring of 2004, the garden was in operation. Dozens of Olathe residents grew vegetables and the Olathe Community Garden was underway.

In 2006 a new parking garage for the County Administration Building was being built. The City needed the garden for the construction vehicles to park. So the City offered a larger area located on Santa Fe Drive between the streets of Iowa and Pine to the gardeners. Once again the City plowed the area and installed water lines and spigots. In the spring of 2007 the garden moved to the new area, now known as the Fairview Garden. There was a lot of rain that first year, but the gardens got planted.

By 2012, the Fairview garden was always filled and there was a large waiting list for plots. The parking garage was long finished and the old garden location was once more just a vacant lot. Garden members went back to the City and asked to get it back as a garden. Within a short time, it was plowed and one of the two garden sheds that were at the Fairview garden had been moved back to Old Town.
