With the help of the fish-climbing system (type: Mäander-Fischpass), which was inaugurated on Friday October 24th, 2013 on the Rostockerstraße in Wismar (M / V), the fishes (for example trout, salmon, eels, smelt, lampreys)overcome a height difference of 3.70 meters. The fish pass includes 22 basins of glass fiber reinforced plastic, each having an internal diameter of 1.80 meters, each about 1 meter deep and offset in height. The compact, space-saving system is 56 meters long. The fish swim against the current from basin to basin and thus overcome the height difference between Wallensteingraben and Mühlenteich. The obstacles in the Wallensteingraben between Wismar and Schwerin were removed to facilitate an ascent and descent. The project costs around 1.8 million euros, most of which was funded by the European Fisheries Fund, the remaining sum is paid by the state of Mecklenburg / Vorpommern.
