The heavy tank Tiger I was first used in action in the number of 3 pieces in September 1942 near Leningrad, where all the 3 tanks broke down. One was withdrawn as a result of faults caused by the construction immaturity; two sunk and were destroyed by their own crew. For the first time, the Tiger tank were used in action in a larger number, along with Panther tank at the battle of Kursk in July 1943 where the advantages of this tank were demonstrated - strong panzer. excellent cannon 88 caliber. Disadvantages of the tank were a gasoline engine having not the sufficient power to íts weight and huge fuel consumption, causing a very small distance range - 117 km on roads only or 2 and half hours of combat action. The next disadvantage was a high transmission failure and complex system of overlapping wheels of the undercarriage disabling tanks from combat operations in mood or on frozen snow slush, particularly on the eastern front. However, the tank Tiger became a legend amongst the WW2 tanks because it was the first real representative of the modem heavy tank category.

Note: This fully functional replica on T-34/85 tank chassis was produced in the Museum on the Demarcation line in Rokycany. On the tank, there is used an imitation paste passive protection coating Zimmerit, which was ueed in the WW2 second half by German tank units. The camouflage scheme was introduced from March 1943 on the European theatre of war.
