[EN] The RSMA of Martinique is a military professional training organization whose objective is to prepare volunteers from 18 to 25 years old to enter the active life either by the acquisition of a direct employment or by a continuation of formation In Martinique or in the metropolis.
The training is based on the acquisition of social and professional skills in nearly 30 trades divided into 4 clusters:
- tropical services and crops,
- building public works,
- tourism, hotels and restaurants,
- transport, maintenance and logistics.
In 1961, the Mixed Regiment of the Antilles-Guyana (RMAG), created by General NEMO, forms a single body with 4 groups distributed over the 3 départements of the West Indies
In 1964, the first grouping of the SMA of Martinique became the 1st battalion of the SMA. At the same time, a central body is set up in the Ministry of Overseas Territories to guide the work of the ADM.
In July 1968 the 1st Battalion of the SMA was installed on two rights-of-way:
- The General Staff and the command and service company are located at Camp Tourtet de Balata.
- The training company moves to Gondeau, in the LAMENTIN.
However, as of 1965, sections of school work will also be deployed throughout the island to carry out major development projects.
In 1976, it takes the name of first RSMA then RSMA of Martinique. The flag of the Mixed Regiment of the Antilles-Guyana is then entrusted to the guard of the RSMA-M which becomes the heir of the traditions of the RMAG.
It was in this regiment that I had the honor of serving, 40 years ago, as Sergeant, I was instructed to teach the arms of the young Martiniquais recruits. What a memory the barracks have changed, and I have not had the right to enter.
[FR] Le RSMA de la Martinique est un organisme militaire de formation professionnelle qui a pour objectif de préparer des volontaires de 18 à 25 ans à s'insérer dans la vie active soit par l'acquisition d'un emploi direct, soit par une poursuite de formation en Martinique ou en métropole.
La formation repose sur l'acquisition de compétences sociales et professionnelles dans près de 30 métiers répartis dans 4 pôles de compétences :
- services et cultures tropicales,
- bâtiment travaux publics,
- tourisme, hôtellerie et restauration,
- transport, maintenance et logistique.
En 1961, le Régiment Mixte des Antilles-Guyane (RMAG) créé par le général NEMO, forme un corps unique avec 4 groupements répartis sur les 3 départements des Antilles
En 1964, le 1er groupement du SMA de Martinique devient le 1er bataillon du SMA. En parallèle, un organisme central est créé au ministère de l'Outre-Mer, chargé d'orienter l'action du SMA.
En juillet 1968 le 1er Bataillon du SMA est installé sur deux emprises :
- L'Etat-Major ainsi que la compagnie de commandement et de services sont installés au camp Tourtet de Balata.
- La compagnie d’instruction emménage quant à elle à Gondeau, au LAMENTIN.
Toutefois, dès 1965, des sections de travaux écoles seront également déployées sur l'ensemble de l'île afin de procéder à de grands chantiers de mise en valeur.
En 1976, il prend l’appellation de 1er RSMA puis de RSMA de la Martinique. Le drapeau du Régiment Mixte des Antilles-Guyane est alors confié à la garde du RSMA-M qui devient l’héritier des traditions du RMAG.
C'est dans ce régiment que j'ai eu l'honneur de servir, il y a 40 ans, en tant que Sergent, j'étais chargé d'enseigner le maniment des armes au jeunes recrues Martiniquais. Que de souvenir, la caserne a bien changé, et je n'ai pas eu le droit d'y pénétrer.
