"La dune du Pilat est située à l’entrée du bassin d’Arcachon sur la commune de La Teste de Buch, en Gironde.
Appartenant aux dunes côtières d’Aquitaine, elle est à ce jour, la seule dune toujours en mouvement de ce système. Entre océan et forêt, elle se déplace de 1 à 5 m par an vers l’est sous l’influence des vents dominants et des marées.
Ainsi, elle recouvre peu à peu le massif forestier attenant. Constituée d’environ 60 millions de m3 de sable, la dune du Pilat mesure 100 à 115 m de haut selon les années."
