Hampsfell Hospice is a stone structure built to provide shelter and a view point, on top of Hampsfell, near Grange over Sands. A popular walk with excellent 360 views. Topographic table on roof. No charge.

Built in 1846 by the vicar of Cartmel to provided shelter for travellers. Half an hour’s walk from Grange, with an outstanding views that take in the Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn, the Langdale Fells and Morecambe Bay.
Stone bench on West side, fireplace inside with evidence of lit fires. Inside are four sign boards, three in verse, one asking to respect the shelter.
Climb onto the roof where there is a stone table with wooden pointer with peak's name and bearing on a sign, to help identify skyline.
Always a windswept exposed place in a Limestone Pavement. All trees are small and bent to the east by predominant winds.
PARKING
No parking nearby. Many people walk up through Eggerslack Woods and back down Hampsfell Road. Or Park on roadside near Grange Fell Golf Club to walk up shoulder to Hospice. An ascent from Cartmel is an excellent walk.
