The Kenly family obelisk was built in the 1870s and moved from the "old cemetery" to Beechwood Cemetery. The monument had been relocated from the cemetery that once existed between Cobourg and Wurtemburg, much closer to downtown Ottawa. Robert Kenly Senior died in Ottawa, 25 January 1874. The monument was moved and Kenly's body was reinterred at Beechwood Cemetery, 23 May 1874.
The winged hourglass symbol is above the panel which would later be dedicated to the memory of Robert Kenly Junior who died 21 December 1887. This monument was created at the marble works of Andrew Kay Mills (1836-1898). The business was located at the corner of Sparks and Bank.
