Coordinates mark the center of the Cadet Area. These are the training grounds for Air Force Academy Cadets, future officers in the USAF. You will not be able to walk up to the actual location marked by the coordinates, but there is an observation platform next to the Chapel about 100 meters west of the coordinates. The Visitor Center is about a half-mile west of the coordinates, and is open to the public daily.

The Air Force Academy was commissioned in 1954 and the first class graduated in 1959. Graduates become commissioned officers, most of whom go on to become pilots in the USAF.

The Academy's unique architecture and majestic setting in the foothills of the Rockies makes this a particularly noteworthy and quite breathtaking place to visit.
Era: Post WW II

General Comments:
I don't think of the Academy as a Military Installation - more as an educational institution. But there is polite, but thorough security throughout the base.
