The chimney is on the grounds of the Springs Preserve, near downtown Las Vegas. The Preserve is the location of the first water wells that were used to support the fledgling town of Las Vegas.

The caretaker was actually an employee of the Union Pacific Railroad during the railroad era of the 1920' until the 1940's.

The chimney is located just north of where the caretaker's house was located. Archival information shows that the chimney was built in the 1930's by a local Boy Scout Troop and was used primarily for trash incineration.

Ironically, the house burnt to the ground sometime in the 1950's.

The chimney now stands as a mute reminder of that bygone era.
