La ville de Palavas a ouvert une salle consacrée à l’art, située dans le prolongement du Casino, la Galerie “Gustave Courbet”. Pourquoi Gustave Courbet, originaire du Doubs ? Parce que ce peintre de grand talent séjourna à Montpellier en 1854 à l’invitation d’Alfred Bruyas, collectionneur d’œuvres d’art.
Courbet découvrit alors la lumière et les transparences irisées de ce pays méditerranéen. Séduit par Palavas, il réalisa quelques marines où il exprimait sa joie et son étonnement face à ce déferlement de couleurs, émanant du ciel, du soleil, de la mer et du sable. Inaugurée en 1997 cette galerie peut accueillir une cinquantaine de tableaux.
The town of Palavas has opened a room devoted to art, located in the extension of the Casino, the "Gustave Courbet" Gallery. Why Gustave Courbet, native of the Doubs? Because this painter of great talent stayed in Montpellier in 1854 at the invitation of Alfred Bruyas, collector of works of art.
Courbet then discovered the light and transparencies of this Mediterranean country. Seduced by Palavas, he realized some marines where he expressed his joy and his astonishment at the flood of colors emanating from the sky, the sun, the sea and the sand. Inaugurated in 1997 this gallery can accommodate fifty paintings.
