Construction of the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi began in 1865, was opened in 1874, and was completed in 1891. The architect was Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda who used polychrome materials throughout the building. The theater was built in the Neo-classical style with two levels of colonnades with doric and ionic columns around a semicircular front of the building.
The grand entrance to the building is framed by a triumphal arch topped by the bronze quadriga which was created by Mario Rutelli. The quadriga represents the "Triumph of Apollo and Euterpe." It is flanked by two bronze equestrian statues of knights a symbol of the Olympic Games sculpted by Benedetto Civiletti. The top of the arch is decorated with a frieze depicting circus performers. The theater has a seating capacity of 950 persons.
