Té l’origen en l’església de Santa Maria (s XIII), dita Santa Maria de l’Olivar, on al s XVI fou fundat el primitiu convent de l'Olivar de monges clarisses (1530-49); conserva d’aquesta època una taula atribuïda a Joan Daurer. El 1911 hi fou establerta una vicaria in capite, dependent d’Esporles, amb demarcació també dins els termes de Valldemossa, Bunyola i Palma, Mallorca.


The settlement dates from the XIII century when the Church of Santa Maria was built and then transformed into the Convent of Santa Maria d'Olivar. The well could be dated from then.
