George Town is a city situated on Grand Cayman island of the Cayman Islands. It serves as the capital of the Cayman Islands, in the British West Indies. As of 2007, the city had a population of 28,836, making it the second largest city (by population) of all the British Overseas Territories. George Town is the heart of the Cayman Islands financial services industry (there are close to 600 Bank and Trust companies in the Cayman Islands). The Caymanian government offices are located in the city.

The Town Hall building was constructed in 1923 by Capt. Rayal Bodden and it opened in 1926 on Armistice Day. It was originally built to serve a number of purposes, including a courthouse, meeting room and town hall. For many years, it was the centre of community life in George Town.

The building, which has served many purposes throughout the years, has been used in recent years as a courtroom for the Traffic Court. This ceased after Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and although the facility had undergone some repairs in the years since then, no money had been allocated to complete repairs, particularly in the restrooms.

The Cayman Islands government has since provided about $25,000 for completion of the repairs and in 2012 the building was ready to be used again after being out of commission for some time.

The George Town Town Hall is also known as the 1919 Peace Memorial as a tribute to Caymanians who lost their lives while serving in the First World War.
