Commandry St. Elisabeth was founded in 1229 by Simon III, Count of Saarbrücken, who was participant in the Fifth Crusade 1217-1219.

This commandry was part of Teutonic Order’s bailiwick of Lorraine.

The chapel was built in the 13th century. It is the oldest still existing building in Saarbrücken. In the 19th century, a gothic steeple was added.

The building is currently used as event and concert hall. It's in a small park, opened 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
