EN: The Order of St John was the wealthiest and most influential order in Mulhouse in the late Middle Ages. They built this chapel in the early 13th century; it was remodelled and extended in the 14th and 15th century. Today it is located in the middle of residential area, but then the chapel and the cemetery of the commandry was surrounded by vineyards and orchards.
After the reformation, the knights had to leave the city and the chapel became municipal property. It was sold in 1798 and was then used as a brewery, later it became a blacksmith shop and then a warehouse. In 1893 it was restored and listed as a "monument historique".
Today it is used for concerts and exhibitions.
FR: L'Ordre de Saint-Jean était à l'ordre le plus riche et le plus influent à Mulhouse à la fin du Moyen Age. Ils ont construit cette chapelle au début du 13ème siècle; elle a été remaniée et transforméé au 14ème et 15ème siècle. Aujourd'hui elle est situé au milieu d'un quartier résidentiel, mais à l'époque la chapelle et le cimetière de la commanderie a été entouré de vignobles et de vergers.
Après la réforme, les chevaliers devaient quitter la ville et la chapelle devenait propriété municipale. Elle a été vendu en 1798 et sera transformée en brasserie, avant de devenir un atelier de maréchal-ferrant et un dépôt. En 1893, elle a été restauré et classé "monument historique".
Aujourd'hui, elle est utilisé pour des concerts et des expositions.
