The well was identical with the spring, which was broken up in 1703, which was called "Gesundbrunnen" and gave the Brunnenstraße (today: Holtenklinker Straße) its name.
This spring was supposed to have healing powers, attracting numerous spa guests, but also an scientist who examined the water.
After 24 examination steps, Decker concluded that the water contained no "special medicinal strength". Thus the stream of the healers and the money that they brought to Bergedorf dried up.
Between 1875 and 1880, the spring was moved to the present location between the houses of Holtenklinker Straße 65b and 67. Today there is also a staircase leading to the Bergedorf cemetery, which was used from 1831 to 1954.
