The distance and direction arrows are located alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal at the junction with the Macclesfield Canal, near bridge 98 and the top lock 41, at Hardings Wood Junction, Kidgrove.

The Cheshire Ring was formulated after successful campaigns for the restoration of several key sections around the route and is one of the original cruising rings.

The Cheshire Ring is a circular canal route that is 97 miles long and has a total of 92 locks. It takes in the whole of the Macclesfield Canal and parts of the Trent and Mersey, Bridgewater, Rochdale, Ashton and Peak Forest Canals.
