This milk platform looks very much like its British cousins. Considering all the pioneer families in this area were mainly from England, and Scotland and Ireland, it is to be expected that the platform would look the same.
I think this is the 'only' milk platform in this whole council shire, which comprises a large area and numerous towns and villages. I don't know if there were others built at nearby Robertson or other locations nearby, but this is certainly the only one that I know of that still exists in this whole council shire.
This milk platform appears to be constructed of concrete with a nice timber trim at the top edge.
I remember my father speaking of the milk cans and the collections that were made from the Kangaloon milk platform.
The platform is no longer used. Milk trucks have been travelling out to the farms since before the 1980s to collect milk direct from farmers. It would then go to depot in Bowral and then on to Sydney (I think by train). By the late 1980s much larger milk trucks have collected milk from farmers and take it straight to Sydney.
The area continues as a farming area, and dairy cows are still raised in the area. Sadly, this is slowly dying out. Many of the old pioneering families are selling up and some moving away as the city folk move here from Sydney buying the land and building more and more houses.
