Die Burgruine Hohenburg wird auch Burg Homburg oder Festung Hohenburg genannt.
Im 12. Jahrhundert lebten hier die Grafen von Homburg. Im Jahr 1449, nach dem Aussterben des Grafengeschlechts, kamen Burg und Stadt zu den Grafen von Nassau-Saarbrücken. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde die Burg zu einem Renaissanceschloss umgebaut und später zu einer Festung.
Der Sonnenkönig Ludwig XIV. ließ die Festung durch seinen Festungsbaumeister Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban erweitern (1679 - 1692). Die Festung wurde 1697 und 1714 geschleift und die Steine wurden zum Bau eines anderen Schlosses verwendet.
Im Jahre 1981 wurde die Festungsanlage ausgegraben und teilweise restauriert.

This ruin of the castle Hohenburg is also called castle Homburg or fort Hohenburg.
The counts of Homburg lived in this castle Hohenburg in the 12. century. In the year 1449 the last count of Homburg died. Then the castle came to the counts of Nassau-Saarbruecken. In the 16. century the castle was rebuilt to a palace and later on to a fort.
Louis XIV of France, the Sun King, strengthen the fort in 1679 - 1692. But in 1697 and 1714 the fort was demolished and the stones of the fort were used to build a different castle.
In the year 1981 the castle was unearthed and preserved.
