Im Jahr 1291 bezogen die Nonnen des Zisterzienserordens das neu errichtete Kloster bei Nimbschen. Zuvor waren die Nonnen (seit 1250) in Grimma untergebracht. Das Kloster besaß im späten Mittelalter umfangreichen Besitz an Elbe und Mulde.
Ein besonderes Ereignis war die Flucht von neun Nonnen aus dem Kloster im Jahr 1523, darunter Katharina von Bora, die spätere Ehefrau von Martin Luther. Dies war die Folge des Eindringens von reformatorischen Gedankengutes in Nimbschen. In den folgenden Jahren wurde die Nonnengemeinschaft im Kloster immer kleiner, bis dieses mit dem Tot der letzten Äbtissin 1536 aufgelöst wurde.
Das Klostergut wurde daraufhin verpachtet. Von 1550 bis 1948 gelangte das Kloster in Besitz der Fürstenschule in Grimma und wurde zum Landesschulgut. Seit 1989 ist das Gelände des ehemaligen Klosters in Privatbesitz.

In 1291 the nuns of the Cistercian Order moved to the newly erected monastery near Nimbschen. Before the nuns (since 1250) were accommodated in Grimma. In the late Middle Ages the monastery possessed extensive possession at the rivers Elbe and Mulde.
A special incident was the escape of nine nuns from the monastery in 1523, including Katharina von Bora, the later wife of Martin Luther. This was the result of the penetration of reformist thought in Nimbschen. In the following years, the nuns congregation became smaller and smaller and was dissolved until the death of the last abbess in 1536.
The monastery property was then leased. From 1550 to 1948, the monastery came into possession of the Fürstenschule in Grimma and became the Landesschulgut. Since 1989, the site of the former monastery is privately owned.
