Le Moulin de la Galette - Windmills on Waymarking.com

At one time, Montmartre was dotted with windmills; nine of them alone on the west side of the hilly quarter, among them "le Blute-Fin" and "le Radet".

The windmills were used not only to grind wheat, but also to press wine or pulverize building materials. The were also a destination for Sunday walks by the Parisians.

Of all of these, "le Blute-Fin" and "le Radet" are the only two that remain. Together with their gardens and farm, they made up the famous ensemble of the Moulin de la Galette, the place were the working classes would go to danse.

With his painting « Bal du Moulin de la Galette » Renoir immortalized this area. Rebuilt in their original form, today the windmills are part of the poetic charm of Montmartre.

"Le Radet" is clearly visible in all seasons from the corner of Rue Lepic and Rue Girardon (above coordinates).

Due to the foliage, "Le Blute-Fin" is barely made out in summer from a vantage point on Rue Tholoze (approx N48 53.211 E2 20.147).
