[EN] The former convent of the Annonciades now houses the municipal library. The library welcomes the public for on-site consultation of books, magazines, etc. (Free of charge) and allows the loan of documents at home (upon registration).
The former convent of the Annonciades was originally built on a hospital or inn, which was mentioned for the first time in 1208. This establishment welcomed the sick, the needy, but also the pilgrims who went to Notre-Dame.
In the 15th century, its management was entrusted to the community of the Franciscan sisters. In the 17th century, they abandoned their hospitable function, joined the Annonciades order and decided to adopt the fence by settling in the building from then on transformed into a convent.
During the revolutionary period, the community was expelled and the convent was transformed into a hospital and an ammunition store. The Annonciade Ladies took possession of the premises at the beginning of the 19th century and devoted themselves to the education of young girls. They left the convent definitively in 1904, after the vote of the separat
[FR] L'ancien couvent des Annonciades abrite aujourd'hui la bibliothèque municipale. La bibliothèque accueille le public pour la consultation sur place des livres, magazines etc. (gratuitement) et permet le prêt des documents à domicile (sur inscription).
L'ancien couvent des Annonciades fut bâti à l'origine sur un hôpital ou hôtellerie, qui fut mentionné pour la première fois en 1208. Cet établissement accueillait les malades, les indigents, mais aussi les pèlerins qui se rendaient à Notre-Dame.
Au XVè siècle, sa gestion fut confiée à la communauté des sœurs franciscaines. Au XVIIe siècle, elles abandonnèrent leur fonction hospitalière, s'affilièrent à l'ordre des Annonciades et décidèrent d'adopter la clôture en s'installant dans le bâtiment dorénavant transformé en couvent.
Pendant la période révolutionnaire, la communauté fut expulsée et le couvent fut transformé en hôpital et en magasin de munitions. Les Dames Annonciades reprirent possession des lieux au début du XIXè siècle et se consacrèrent à l'instruction des jeunes filles. Elles quittèrent définitivement le couvent en 1904, après le vote de la séparation de l’Église et de l’État. L'édifice abandonné et sinistré pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, abrite aujourd'hui, depuis sa totale rénovation en 1974, les services de la bibliothèque municipale.
Riche de 300000 ouvrages, elle conserve notamment une précieuse collection de manuscrits.
