The poem of Jean Aicard reads (translated from French):

"Carrying us in their basket
The figs, the rosy clusters,
The double and perfumed apricot,
They go, with an animated gesture,
Speaking a sound language
Where progress is not named,
But let our sun color,
That Dante was still speaking,
And that Mistral loved so much."

Jean François Victor Aicard (Toulon, 4 February 1848 – Paris, 13 May 1921) was a French poet, dramatist and novelist.

Le poème de Jean Aicard se lit:

"En nous portant dans leur corbeille
Les figues, les grappes vermeilles,
L'abricot double et parfumé,
Elles vont, le geste animé,
Parlant un langage sonore
Où le progrès n'est pas nommé,
Mais que notre soleil colore,
Que le Dante parlait encore,
Et que Mistral a tant aimé."
