Description

L’œuvre nous montre trois adolescents légèrement plus grands que nature, en position assise sur deux bancs. Les personnages, par leur attitude, sont représentatifs des trois éléments propres au phénomène de l’intimidation : l’intimidateur, le témoin, la victime. À noter que l’espace vacant près de L’esseulée permet à quiconque désire symboliquement l’accompagner, de s’asseoir à ses côtés. Ainsi par sa présence, le spectateur prend littéralement position contre l’intimidation. Lorsque cette version virtuelle de l’œuvre est acheminée sur le Web par une photo, le message prend alors toute sa dimension.

Historique du projet

Il n’est pas habituel pour Langevin, comme chez bien des artistes, d’associer son art à la défense d’une cause si grande soit-elle. En ce cas-ci, c’est à la suite du suicide médiatisé d’une adolescente de la Gaspésie qu’il a répondu à l’appel d’un donateur anonyme voulant installer une œuvre dans cette région.

Le sculpteur s’est senti concerné non seulement par ce suicide duquel il fallait collectivement pouvoir tirer des leçons, mais aussi par le fait qu’une de ses propres filles avait jadis elle-même été gravement intimidée. Une fois le modèle original de L’esseulée réalisé en argile, l’idée de multiplier l’œuvre en vue de la placer en divers endroits du Québec s’est imposée.

Toutefois, l’élan du cœur de l’artiste (qui ne récolte aucun profit des reproductions qu’il réalise avec son équipe) ne pouvait à lui seul réussir à convaincre les instances municipales ou régionales d’acquérir une œuvre et d’assumer les coûts minimums de production, soit 10 000 $. Heureusement, quantité de personnes un peu partout en région se sont mobilisées pour faire connaître le projet et faire en sorte qu’il voit le jour dans leur coin de pays. Pour aider à cette diffusion élargie de L’esseulée, un donateur s’est engagé à couvrir les frais de transport et d'installation sur les sites choisis par les municipalités. Il s’agit de la Société de gestion COGIR dont l’engagement social, notamment auprès des retraités, est bien connu. Dans les faits, c’est une véritable chaîne humaine qui s’est formée avec l’objectif de mettre un terme à la banalisation du phénomène de l’intimidation.

Cette campagne spontanée est en bonne voie de se réaliser à la grandeur du Québec puisque sept municipalités (Mont-Joli, Mont-Laurier, Ste-Adèle, Fermont, Chandler, LaSalle, St-Lambert) ont déjà fait l’acquisition de l’œuvre tandis que quatre autres (St-Félicien, La Sarre, Cap-Rouge, Magog) sont sur le point d’en faire autant.

Project history

It is not customary for Langevin, as among many artists, to associate his art with the defense of a cause as great as it is. In this case, it was following the mediated suicide of a teenager from the Gaspé Peninsula that he responded to the call of an anonymous donor wanting to install a work in this region.
 
The sculptor felt concerned not only by the suicide of which it was necessary collectively to be able to draw lessons, but also by the fact that one of his own daughters had once been severely intimidated. Once the original model of L'esseulée was realized in clay, the idea of ??multiplying the work with a view to placing it in various places of Quebec imposed itself.
 
However, the artistic heart of the artist (who does not benefit from the reproductions he makes with his team) could not succeed in convincing the municipal or regional authorities to acquire a work and to assume the Minimum production costs of $ 10,000. Fortunately, many people throughout the region have come together to make the project known and to make it happen in their corner of the country. To assist in this expanded distribution of L'esseulée, a donor has committed to cover the costs of transportation and installation on the sites chosen by the municipalities. This is the COGIR Management Company whose social commitment, particularly to pensioners, is well known. In fact, it is a true human chain that has been formed with the aim of putting an end to the trivialization of the phenomenon of intimidation.
 
This spontaneous campaign is well underway in Québec, with seven municipalities (Mont-Joli, Mont-Laurier, Ste-Adele, Fermont, Chandler, LaSalle and St-Lambert) While four others (St-Félicien, La Sarre, Cap-Rouge, Magog) are about to do the same.
