EN: The Dreifaltigkeitskirche (Trinity Church) is a three-nave Roman Catholic basilica in Bern. It is located not far from the Federal Palace southwest of the old town.

The church, built in the Lombardic Romanesque style, is made of white Jurassic limestone. The 45-meter-high church tower and front facade are strongly structured by pilaster strips and cornices.

After Bern joined the Reformation in 1528, Catholic services were forbidden. Only in 1799 the first Catholic Mass was celebrated in the Münster. The Bernese Catholics received hospitality in the French church from 1804, until 1864 the first Catholic church of St. Peter and Paul was built near the town hall. In 1875, this church went to the Christian Catholic church, which split up in the cultural struggle, so that the Roman Catholic Bernese had to move back to other churches.

The Trinity Church was built between 1896 and 1899. The plans came from Heinrich Victor von Segesser and Henry Berthold von Fischer. In 1972 and again in 2005, the church was renovated and redesigned.

The church also includes the neighboring patrician mansion La Prairie, dating from the 15th century. This building now serves as a parish house.

Die im Stil der lombardischen Romanik erbaute Kirche besteht aus weissem Jurakalkstein. Der 45 Meter hohe Kirchturm und die Frontfassade sind durch Lisenen und Gesimse stark strukturiert.

Nachdem sich Bern 1528 der Reformation angeschlossen hatte, wurden katholische Gottesdienste verboten. Erst 1799 wurde wieder eine Katholische Messe im Münster gefeiert. Die Berner Katholiken genossen ab 1804 Gastrecht in der Französischen Kirche, bis 1864 die erste katholische Kirche St. Peter und Paul in der Nähe des Rathauses gebaut wurde. Diese Kirche ging 1875 an die im Kulturkampf abgespaltene christkatholische Kirche, so dass die römisch-katholischen Berner wieder auf andere Kirchen ausweichen mussten.

Die Dreifaltigkeitskirche wurde 1896 bis 1899 erbaut. Die Pläne stammten von Heinrich Victor von Segesser und Henry Berthold von Fischer. 1972 und 2005 wurde die Kirche renoviert und im Innern umgestaltet.

Zu der Kirche gehört auch das benachbarte ehemalige Patrizier-Gutshaus La Prairie, das aus dem 15. Jahrhundert stammt. Dieses Gebäude dient heute als Pfarreihaus.
