In Ticonderoga, within Fort Ticonderoga, is a demonstration oven that was used by the staff to cook period food.

Fort Ticonderoga is located east of the village of Ticonderoga. From the center, take New York Route 74 for about a mile. Right after the railroad crossing, turn right onto the entrance road to the fort. After paying the fee, drive to the fort parking lot. From there, enter the fort. The oven is just outside of the main entrance to the fort parade grounds.

The oven is essentially a pile of clay that was then formed and several chambers were hollowed out. A staff person was there making a meal for the rest of them. He explained that he was feeding for a group of about six. So, in colonial times, one person for each group would be around this oven preparing the meals.
