St. Mary's Church in Rostock, Germany is home to a world famous astronomical clock. The clock was built in 1472 and is today the only one of its kind still in working condition with its original clockworks.
The clock consist of three parts: an Apostle-go-round on to, a clock in the center and a Calendar at the bottom.
The clock in the center not only has a 12-hour clockwork to show time, but also a 28-day clockwork for the phases of the moon and a 365-day clockwork to show the respective sign of Zodiac.
The signs of zodiac are detailed wooden relief carvings, placed around the clock. A separate clock handle points at the current sign.
A second set of similar reliefs is placed around the calendar disk in the bottom part.
