When the Kassel policeman and rescue swimmer Georg Morell and his colleague Hermann Jordan controlled the beach section, he saw that something was wrong. Several teenagers were in the water, one drove the current dangerously far out. The two policemen immediately jumped into the sea. With her last strength, they brought the 14-year-old boy to shore. Then the two rescuers were also caught by a wave. Hermann Jordan made it back to the beach completely exhausted. Georg Morell continued to fight with the churning sea.
On the beach there were more helpers. They shot a rope with a rocket towards Georg Morell. He was to hold onto it. What then happened, the criminal police Westerland later stated in her report as a particularly tragic misfortune. The rope, with which Georg Morell was to be saved, wrapped itself around the neck of the exhausted man. He had no chance, the rescuer was killed in the North Sea.
That was at July 23, 1961.
Georg Morell was only 40 years old. He left his wife and two children.
