The first floor of this recently constructed building is occupied by the Nowra branch of the Red Cross. The branch offers first aid courses, Young Parents Program, an Op Shop where donated clothes and household goods are sold to raise vital funds for Red Cross' humanitarian activities. Telecross where calls are made to check on a person's welfare & Mental Health first aid courses.
Due to the real need in the Shoalhaven community Red Cross, in conjunction with the local Aboriginal Legal Service, runs the Learner Driver program, where dedicated volunteers mentor learner drivers to help them get the necessary driving experience to get their licence.
A branch of the British Red Cross was established in Australia in 1914, nine days after the starting of World War I, by Lady Helen Munro Ferguson. The British Red Cross (Australian Branch) changed its name to the Australian Red Cross Society and was incorporated by royal charter on 28 June 1941.
