This amazing structure was built as an exhaust for the power station located with the workhouse at the Monroe County Institutions which included the insane asylum, almshouse and poor farm. This massive complex hit its height of use after 1902 when the new asylum was built to go along with the new almshouse the year before. It unsure when the workshop was built, but it matches the architecture of both buildings per photos and the insane asylum building which still stands today as the county health department. It also matches local architecture built between 1900 and 1919 on several local buildings throughout the area. This stack features a square connection to the building, followed by a meshed octagon base into the classic brick round stack with a metal tip on the top. Today the building is still used as the county health department workshop for the maintenance workers.
