 The flag of the city of Potsdam is red and yellow with the coat of arms of the city in the center. The city's coat of arms is the Red Eagle of the March of Brandenburg. It is identical with the state's coat of arms, differing only in the background color.

The eagle was adopted by Margrave Gero the Great in the 10th century and has remained almost unchanged for over a thousand years.

The mural crown underlines the city's status as the capital of the German state of Brandenburg.

This particular flag flies on the John Barnett, a restaurant ship permanently moored at a berth at lake Tiefer See.
