EN: The Wermannskapelle (soldier's chapel) stands on a hill on the road from Brig to Ried.
The chapel also serves as a memorial for the soldiers and officers of the Mob Pl 304 Oberwallis, especially those active during the two world wars. Accordingly, the decoration is also more military than usual in waychapels. The chapel was built in 1951 by Karl Schmid, a well-known Swiss literary scholar and officer.
Above the entrance it has a semicircular mosaic, about three meters wide. It depicts an angel kneeling between a cross and a couple of rifled guns and a Swiss flag. In the background there are mountain peaks, in the foreground barbed wire can be seen. The inscription reads: "MCMXIV-MCMXVIII IN MEMORIAM MCMXXXIX-MCMXLV"
DE: Die Wermannskapelle steht auf einem Hügel an der Strasse von Brig nach Ried.
Die Kapelle dient auch als Mahnmahl für die Soldaten und Offiziere des Oberwalliser Mob Pl 304, insbesondere derjenigen im aktiven Dienst während der beiden Weltkriege. Dementsprechend ist die Dekoration auch militärischer als sonst bei Wegkapellen üblich. Die Kapelle wurde 1951 von Karl Schmid erbaut, einem bekannten Schweizer Literaturwissenschaftler und Offizier.
Über dem Eingang befindet sich ein halbrundes Mosaik mit etw drei Metern Breite. Es stellt einen Engel dar, der zwischen einem Kreuz und ein paar aneinander gelehnten Gewehren und einer Schweizerfahne kniet. Im Hintergrund befinden sich Berggipfel, im Vordergrund ist noch Stacheldraht zu erkennen. Die Inschrift heisst: "MCMXIV-MCMXVIII IN MEMORIAM MCMXXXIX-MCMXLV"
