Carl Sandburg was born in Galesburg, Illinois in 1878. Much of his poetry was focused on Chicago, where he was a reporter for the Chicago Daily News. Sandburg was a poet, novelist, historian, and songwriter. His “The Complete Poems of Carl Sandburg.” won a Pulitzer Prize. He started working on a series of biographies on Abraham Lincoln while he worked in Chicago. He won a second Pulitzer Prize for “Abraham Lincoln, The War Years.”
Carl Sandburg’s birth place is operated by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site. It also contains a museum and the rock under which he is buried.
