An den vier Seiten der grün-weiß gestreiften Säule sind vier Plaketten angebracht, auf der die Geschichte Borkums zusammengefasst ist. Von der ersten bekannten Erwähnung der Insel auf einer Urkunde bis zur Gründung der BRD.

Die Landkarte von Borkum, an der dieser geographische interessante Punkt durch einen Pin markiert ist, ist auf einem halbhohen, runden Stein angebracht. Zudem werden die vier Himmelrichtungen angezeigt und die Namen ausgewählter Orte in der entsprechenden Himmelsrichtung mit ihrer Entfernung angezeigt.

On the four side of the wooden column, which is coloured in green and white, you will see four plaques which tell you a summary of the history of Borkum. The history starts with the mentioning of the island on a document in the year 1227 up to the foundation of Federal Republik of Germany in 1949.

The map of Borkum is placed on the round stone. The piece of land which is at the farthest north-east of Germany - this place - is marked on the map with a small pin. A star shows you the four geographic directions. Also the names of certain cities are marked at this compass together with their distances.

1227 as Borkna
1398 as Borkyn

Since 15. Century the Earls of East Friesland reign the island.
1744, after the death of the last male Earl of Friesland (and Borkum), the island belongs to the Kingdom of Prussia.

Borkum was part of Prussia for three times:
From 1744 to 1807
Due to the peace treaty of Tilsit between Prussia and France Borkum becames part of France.
From 1813 to 1815
This is the time between the end of the war of liberation and the conclusion of the Congress of Vienna
From 1866 to 1946
From the peace treaty of Prague, which stopped the German War and ended the kingdom of Hannover, until the liquidation of Prussia

Borkum was part of France or part of kingdom Hannover

Due to peace treaty of Tilsit, East Friesland / Borkum is part of the kingdom of Holland and reigned by king Louis Napoleon, then until 1813 part of the empire of France.

Due to the Congress of Vienna in 1815 East Friesland / Borkum is assigned to the Kingdom of Hannover, until 1866.
