The original Cressy Public Hall was destroyed in a bushfire that devastated the area on 12th February 1977, the hall was rebuilt and opened on 11th of February 1979 by Cec Burgin M.L.A.
Cec Burgin was a Liberal polititian who represented the Polwarth electorate for 15 years, born in Horsham on 19th May 1923 he died in Tewantin Qld on November 1st 2003, during WW2 he became a Flying Officer in the R.A.A.F..
The plaque comemorating the opening reads :-
" THIS HALL
WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED BY
MR. CEC BURGIN M.L.A.
ON 11TH FEBRUARY 1979.
THE RESIDENTS OF CRESSY AND DISTRICT
ACKNOWLEDGE WITH GRATITUDE THE INDIVIDUALS
AND ORGANIZATIONS WHO GENEROUSLY
CONTRIBUTED TOWARDS RE-BUILDING THE HALL
DESTROYED BY FIRE ON 12TH FEBRUARY 1977 "
