[FR] Préservé des tempêtes et des coupes, le châtaignier du Pas aux Biches possède un houppier non étêté qui lui a permis de produire au
cours de sa vie beaucoup de fruits. Essence*nourricière, le châtaignier était considéré par les Celtes comme le gardien de la porte de l’hiver pour la précieuse manne alimentaire qu’il apportait. Surnommé arbre à pain pour la farine et les plats qu’on fabriquait avec ses châtaignes, il permettait à bien des familles de passer le cap de la saison froide. Les maisons s’égayaient alors du crépitement et des odeurs des marrons qui pétaient dans «l’harrassouère», la poêle à trou. Grâce à cet arbre providentiel, toute une vie sociale autour de la plantation et de l’entretien des châtaigneraies, de la
cueillette, de l’épluchage et de la consommation des fruits s’animait au fil de l’année.
