The Native Americans made bowls for everyday use to grind or macerate susbstances for use in their day to day living. Even today, modern man recognizes the utility of soapstone.
Text of the plaque reads:
"Soapstone Boulder
On this ancient soapstone boulder are two artfully carved soapstone bowls made by Native Americans, around 5000 years ago. The bowls were rough-shaped with flint chisels and then broken out before doing the final shaping. This boulder was brought to Pickens County by Harold W. Davis in the 1950's and is pictured in Bert Bierer's"South Carolina Indian Lore"
