The fountain has an octagonal stone basin with an upright stone pillar in its center. A plaque on the basin reads:

SALOME
Per Ung
Laget til åpningen av Hotel Admiral 1987

[ENGLISH TRANSLATION]
SALOME
Per Ung
Created for the opening of Hotel Admiral in 1987

On top of the fountain's pillar is a bronze statue of Salome, the daughter of Herod II and Herodias (visit link) . The nude, slighly smaller than life-size statue of Salome depicts her balanced on her right toes. Her left leg is bent at the knee and raised at about a 45-degree angle. Both arms are raised into the air and he head is thrown backward. She appears to be dancing.

"Salome (c. AD 14 – between 62 and 71) was the daughter of Herod II and Herodias. She is infamous for demanding and receiving the head of John the Baptist, according to the New Testament.

According to Mark 6:21-29 a daughter of Herodias danced before Herod and her mother Herodias at the occasion of his birthday, and in doing so gave her mother the opportunity to obtain the head of John the Baptist. Even though the New Testament accounts do not mention a name for the girl, this daughter of Herodias is often identified with Salome. According to Mark's gospel Herodias bore a grudge against John for stating that Herod's marriage to her was unlawful; she encouraged her daughter to demand that John be executed."
