This is a nice bronze statue depicting a sitting retriever. It sits on a small stone slab on the ground. Besides a nearby bench, it's about the only feature in this tiny park on Pershing Boulevard, just on the edge of downtown Cheyenne.

On the dog's left rear paw, there is an artist's signature; it's hard to make out the name, but it begins with L, and it's followed by "2002 (C)".

Other than that inscription, there is no name, sign or other information in the area about this statue. But an article from the city paper (the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle), dated 6/15/2002, gives this information:

"THUMBS UP To the family and friends of young Travis Werner, who came to Pando Park last week to honor the student who died about a year ago.

A tree was planted in his honor at Miller Elementary, where Travis attended school, and, most appropriately, a statue of his dog, Stomper, was placed at Pando Park in the right place -- overlooking the park and keeping a watchful eye on the children at play."
Breed: Retriever

Date Built: 2002
