Litovický rybník je soucástí prírodní památky Hostivické rybníky (visit link) . Nachází se ve Stredoceském kraji, nedaleko západní hranice hlavního mesta Prahy. Prírodní památka chrání krome zdejších rybníku i prilehlé lesní a mokradní pozemky. Hlavním duvodem ochrany této lokality je rada hnízdících i celorocne žijících ptáku.
Oblastí Hostivických rybníku prochází netypická 2,5 km dlouhá naucná stezka . U vstupu na stezku jsou nainstalovány informacní tabule s mapou trasy. Jednotlivá zastavení cesty jsou však v terénu vyznacena pouze císly, pruvodce trasou najdou návštevníci na internetu.
Na tretím zastavení této trasy vznikla nová ptací pozorovatelna, která umožnuje sledovat ptáky na hladine Litovického rybníka.
