Die Erstausgabe der Leipziger Volkszeitung war am 01.10.1894. Die Zeitung blickt auf eine lange sozialdemokratische Geschichte zurück. Zwischenzeitlich gehörte auch die Antimilitaristin, Internationalistin und Marxistin Rosa Luxemburg zur Redaktion.
Seit 1991 beteiligen sich jeweils zu 50 Prozent die Verlage Axel Springer und Madsack an der Tageszeitung.

Im Jahr 1999 zog die LVZ in das neue Gebäude am Peterssteinweg 19 ein. Die Verkaufszahlen der Zeitung sind in den vergangenen Jahren stark zurückgegangen. So ist die Auflage seit 1998 um 43,9 Prozent gesunken (aktuell 184.370 Exemplare). Die LVZ erscheint täglich mit neun regionalisierten Ausgaben.

The first issue of the LVZ was 01.10.1894. The newspaper looks back on a long social-democratic history. Meantime the antimilitarist, internationalist and Marxist Rosa Luxembourg was part of the editors.
Since 1991, the publishers Axel Springer and Madsack share the LVZ each to 50 percent.

In 1999, the LVZ moved into the new building at Peterssteinweg 19. The sales figures of the newspaper declined highly in the recent years. So the run of the newspaper fell by 43.9 percent since 1998 (currently 184,370 copies). The LVZ appears daily with nine regionalized editions.
