On it's first part, Köllertal bike trail is using the railway trail of the former Lebach-Völklingen railway.
Opened in 1911, the Lebach-Völklingen railway was following the Köllerbach valley in direction Lebach. In 1985, railway was closed. One part of the railway from Völklingen to Etzenhofen was demolished and converted into a bike trail while the other part from Walpershofen to Lebach was returned to traffic in 2011 and 2014 as part of the Saarbahn tramway.

Ein Teil des Köllertal-Radweges verläuft über die ehemalige Trasse der Köllertalbahn.
Die 1911 eröffnete Köllertalbahn folgte dem Köllertal in Richtung Lebach. 1985 wurde die Bahnstrecke geschlossen und ein Teil der Strecke, von Völklingen nach Etzenhofen, abgebaut und als Radweg hergerichtet. Der weitere Streckenteil von Walpershofen nach Lebach wurde in den Jahren 2011 und 2014 als Teil der Saarbahn wiedereröffnet.
Die Koordinaten zeigen auf den ehemaligen Bahnhof Püttlingen etwa in der Mitte der Strecke.
